Peronar
(PER-oh-nahr)
The Peronar were a subculture of elves closely associated with the humans of Hkar and the Drankorian Empire. They retained a distinct cultural identity from other elves, even though they often occupied the same cities and realms, such as in Drankor and in Estemar, the City of Peace in Rostaurë.
The history and lore of the Peronar that survives is strongly associated with Drankorian culture. Peronar held a prominent place in Drankorian rule: the first four emperors were Peronar, and later Peronar emperors ruled intermittently until Imrodel, the last. In the latter days of the Drankorian Empire, after the Omnis Pura ascended to power, the Peronar were particularly targeted for persecution; Rostaurë sheltered numerous Peronar refugees during the upheavals following the Drankorian Civil War.
Once Apollyon fully established his supremacy over the organs of the Drankorian state, he carried out systematic massacres of Peronar. Arheste witnessed their slaughter both among Rostaurë’s defeated defenders and in public spectacles in Drankor. The vast bulk of the rich culture of the Peronar was utterly destroyed during this time. Accounts from the last days of Drankor express fears that most, if not all, of the Peronar were hunted down and killed by Apollyon – but at least a small population survived in some fashion, for Rai, alive during the Great War, was a Peronar and the last of Imrodel’s line. If any other Peronar survived to the modern era, they are well-hidden.
