Gathering of the Soul

The Gathering of the Soul is a term used in Mos Numena theology to describe the miracle by which the soul of a deceased individual is drawn from the Plane of Souls into the Land of the Dead. This passage is believed to be a birthright of the human condition and the counterpart to the Gifting of the Soul at birth. Thus, it is not usually treated as something that human prayer or ritual must cause.

Instead, the rites of mourning and remembrance associated with Mos Numena funerary traditions are directed toward the soul’s dangerous journey through the Land of the Dead and toward the divine realms beyond.
