Caradoc

🔈 (CARE-uh-dock)

Caradoc is a reclusive alchemist of the highlands of Carlinshire, who maintains a simple cottage and laboratory outside Brantor. He is a regular presence in Roscombe on market days, where he meets clients, arranges commissions, and occasionally sells minor potions and ointments to the populace and travelers. Despite his age, Caradoc moves with crisp intention. He has short white hair, keen green eyes, and a habit of weighing every bargain against risks that are not always obvious to those he deals with.

Rumored to be fabulously wealthy—or secretly fey‑touched—he lives simply and treats alchemy as a scholarly pursuit and civic duty rather than a means to riches. He does not share where and how he came by his coin, but he clearly has enough. He pays generously for rare ingredients, especially those that are dangerous to collect, but does not seem to charge enough to recoup his costs. He eschews adventure and relies on agents to secure exotic ingredients such as cockatrice gizzards and the living mineral uligium.

Caradoc has hidden depths, as well. He has a surprising knowledge of esoteric concoctions, such as Trueflame, and once traveled in the Feywild under the name Aurenxis, a name he used to keep his true identity safe from mischief. He does not advertise this history, though those who know him well may learn that as a teenager he crossed into the Thornweald, Morlaith’s realm in the Feywild; whatever happened there left him with prematurely white hair and an uncanny instinct for alchemy.
