The Thornweald

The Thornweald is the ancient forest domain of Morlaith. It lies congruent with the hills and river valleys of western Addermarch, west of Twilight’s Grace and east of Duskmire, though its boundaries are variable and unpredictable as the power of Morlaith waxes and wanes. It was once much more extensive, but has dimished with Morlaith’s decline; its former extent is poorly recorded or understood.

Much of the realm is a dense forest and thick underbrush, where the late afternoon sun only occasionally is visible through the leaves, and the frequent light rain barely penetrates as drips off the leaves. It is a realm of old paths, and hidden hollows, though few paths lead where a traveler expects, and hidden hollows hide more than meets the eye.

Morlaith maintains no court or manor, though travelers who keep the old courtesies may pass unbothered, except by the trouble they bring with them. The careless rarely escape unchanged, and often do not escape at all.
