Planar Connections
Planar geographers widely discuss two commonly understood forms for planar connection. Extraplanar weak points allow influence or energy to leak from one two to another, but do not permit passage. Planar portals, in contrast, are doorways between fixed points on different planes that allow a traveler to step directly between planes, though they may only function at particular times or under certain conditions.
A more controversial third category, known as planar upwellings or elemental vortexes, are temporary and unpredictable connections between planes that can carry creatures or objects between planes, sometimes without warning.
