Originally from: Chardon, the Chardonian Empire
Kaeso is a well-traveled Chardonian scholar and practical magician, and a friend and mentor to Kenzo of the Dunmar Fellowship. In his late fifties, he has a lively face, scraggly black hair, and olive skin; he prefers simple, functional dress. Though graying patches of hair and care-worn lines on his face show signs of his age, he maintains a youthful energy, and speaks emphatically with his hands.
Background
Kaeso was born and raised in Chardon, and studied under Roscelia at the Faculty of Magic in the University of Chardon as a youth. He was never the most talented student, but his steady persistence carried him through university. Kaeso was not drawn to the academic life, and soon left Chardon to travel widely, passing through Dunmar, Karawa, and many other places.
He returned to Chardon in his thirties, convinced that the exploitation and commercialization of magic he saw throughout Chardon, but most especially in the Chardon chalyte trade, was wrong. He refused to share the magical knowledge he had learned on his travels with the Society of the Open Scroll, earning him expulsion, though he maintained cordial relationships with some individuals, including Roscelia. During this time, he met Kenzo, a child at the time, and took him in, devoting much of his time to protecting and teaching him. He also began corresponding with others concerned that many in Chardon, including the political and academic establishments, were far too cavalier about the harms and dangers of the chalyte trade.
Recent Events
Kaeso reconnected with his old student, Kenzo, in Chardon on Aug 21, 1748 DR, overjoyed to see him thriving. Soon after, the Dunmar Fellowship were attacked by Fausto and fled his tower. Kaeso learned he was going to be invited to Fausto’s Tower for questioining in connection with this incident, and chose to flee the city instead. By October 1748, he had made his way to Hamri. He has lived in exile here, staying at the Leviathan Inn on Wazir’s invitation, since then, waiting for the situation in Chardon to shift.
