Caleb was Rayna’s maternal grandfather. He raised her for much of her childhood and taught her stories of Mawar, the Ocean Watchers, and the old heritage of the western coast.
When Rayna first began hearing the ocean in visions and songs, Caleb believed she was blessed. After those songs abruptly fell silent, he feared the silence marked some deeper danger. He later died in a shipwreck that Rayna survived.
