Azar, later called Azar the Lost, was a fisherman from a small village on the eastern coast of the Mawakel Peninsula. After his wife Nadine and their two sons drowned in DR 1741, he turned to gatza in grief and became lost in the gatza-world of the voices of his dead family, until some time later he heard a new voice, promising to help.
That new voice led him to Gazankoa, the Blood Knife, and a series of murderous rituals meant to restore the drowned dead. He later sought out the lore of Airion the Mistspeaker, recovered several annotated books from Airion’s library and other artifacts, and learned of Yi’weti, the living water he believed could make the ritual succeed. Through Airion’s ring, he compelled the marid Nimessa to steal a fragment of the Sentient Ocean and bring it to Hamri.
In DR 1747, Azar’s crimes in Hamri were uncovered by Ryu, Wazir, Trok, and Kaleho. After his defeat, he told them his story and left Hamri with Benat for a lizardfolk village to the south, intending to heal and begin making restitution.
