Sentient Ocean
Along the coasts of the Mawar Confederacy, the Apporian Peninsula, and other regions facing the Endless Ocean, sailors and storytellers sometimes speak of waters far beyond the shore that sing, dream, or remember. These stories do not agree on what this power is, but all speak of a strange, alien power, a living mind of the ocean.
This entity has been called many names, including Yi’weti by the old mages of the north; Ur Biyiak, the name used by salt lizardfolk of the Mawakel Peninsula; Wanui Teora by the great beasts of the deep; and Ma’haya Kabir by the Mawaran saint Guzo the Mariner. But most folks just call it the Sentient Ocean. It is said that the Ocean Watchers of Mawar know more than any land-dweller of the Sentient Ocean, but even among them it remains a fleeting presence glimpsed in waves, dreams, old songs, and the strange behavior of creatures from the western sea.
The Sentient Ocean does not communicate through ordinary speech. Those who encounter claim to experience its thoughts through currents, salinity, temperature, pressure, music, images, and memories, a sensory language that often appears as dreams or visions to mortals caught in it.
