Marid

Marids are the name for a diverse group of powerful water genies, among the most famous native inhabitants of the Elemental Plane of Water.

Much scholarship depicts marids as solitary creatures, often crafting their own unique watery realms across the vastness of the Elemental Plane of Water. Depictions and stories of strange watery palaces, constructed from living coral and bioluminescent algae, shimmering ice, rock, or stranger materials point to the vast diversity of marid tastes. Yet, some scholars this picture and hint that organized marid societies must exist somewhere.

Unlike some of their elemental brethren, marids rarely interact willingly with mortals, and thus tales of their lives on the Elemental Plane of Water are few and far between. Most stories of marid interactions with mortals depict them as either unwillingly bound to serve mortals through magic, or as binding mortals into their service.
