The Chardonian Legion

The famed Chardonian Legion is the military force of the Chardonian Empire, and one of the chief instruments of imperial power, allowing Chardon to project force far beyond the settled core of the Empire. The Legion is subdivided into a variety of numbered field formations, local garrisons, road guards, frontier forts, border detachments, and other forces assigned to protect imperial interests. Commanders of its major formations report through the military hierarchy to the Magistros, rather than to local proconsuls, making the Legion an agent of central control as much as provincial defense.

The Legion also incorporates elite mageguard and battle-mage units. While the details of these forces are not widely publicized, Chardonian military power is closely tied to chalyte, which is said to fuel the feats of the Legion’s war wizards.
