Lord Hulda

Hulda is a scarred, powerfully built man in his mid-to-late forties, with a grizzled gray beard and the wary bearing of an experienced fighter. He spent many years as an adventurer, sellsword, guard, and mercenary around Sembara, Tollen, and the wider Green Sea. He is proud, bitter, resentful at times, and deeply invested in receiving his due.

Hulda’s Story

Hulda was the second son of a minor lord in southern Sembara. Resentful of his modest inheritance, he left home and spent nearly thirty years as a sellsword, guard, mercenary, and adventurer around the Green Sea. He made and lost fortunes and lovers, but gained only a minor reputation. In the spring of 1740, he and his companions killed a young dragon near Tollen. The others all died in the fight, leaving Hulda celebrated in song but as poor and bitter as before.

Soon after, a stranger delivered a brittle, centuries-old deed (though written in modern Sembaran) that named Hulda, his lineage, his birth date, and even the recent slaying of the dragon. It promised him Dandelion House, its lands, and its treasures if he passed through a hidden door and convinced Lord Endless Ending to end a long-standing agreement. Hulda tried and failed to intimidate the fae lord into compliance, but, deeply invested in acquiring ownership of Dandelion House, hired five adventurers to try in exchange for half the promised hoard.

After the five adventurers passed through a tunnel beneath Dandelion House into the Feywild and the Twilight Kingdom, Hulda slammed the door, hoping to force them to complete the mission. Whether they did or not, Hulda never learned, as he was killed a few days later when the fungal entities posing as his servants attacked Dandelion House.

After many years of adventuring, Hulda grew to middle age as an angry, unhappy adventurer. Eventually, he found his way into the Feywild and the 27th House, where he met the Prisoner in the 27th Room. The prisoner sent him through a root to the year DR 1351, where he wrote the promise that became the deed and gave it to someone who could return it to his younger self.

Hulda died in the DR 1360s, still waiting for Sembara to be established as a united monarchy.
