On Minds and Chaos

A Chardonian cosmological treatise, written in the DR 900s, by Gaius Devarro

On Minds and Chaos is the magnum opus of Gaius Devarro on Limbo, collecting fragments of poems, tales, and testimonies attributed to travelers who survived the plane.

One part of the work collects tales of the strange and mysterious phenomena of Limbo. For example, one tale describes burning water that leapt like fire from rock to rock across a jumbled landscape of boulders floating in emptiness, the fire consuming the rock and leaving glittering snow behind, which slowly melted to dust and blew away on the wind. However, many of the anonymous writers collected in this work seem to be unable to describe in concrete terms what they saw.

Gaius also attempts to catalog what few physical landmarks can be said to exist in the ever-changing chaos of Limbo. He records tales of sanctuaries, of a kind, held solid by acts of impossible concentration; massive rocks floating like icebergs in empty space, never changing, hollowed out into laboratories of transmutation; and impossible towers that twist in space, stretching to pinnacles of elemental power.
