The Path of Unmaking
A translation and commentary, written in the DR 1250s, by an unknown author
The Path of Unmaking is an anonymous work from the DR 1250s, purporting to translate and comment on a hobgoblin ritual codex, associated with what the translator calls the Cult of the Shattered Banner. It recounts a cultist’s initiation into the mastery of Limbo through the Three Marches. The first, the March of Iron, is associated with maintaining a sphere of stability around a person moving through chaos. The second, the March of Arrows, is associated with finding hidden patterns that allow one to sail through chaos as if following a hidden current. The third, the March of Wounds, is associated with discontinuous transitions across chaotic fissures, at great risk.
The work survives intact, with several copies held in the libraries of the University of Tollen, though there are extensive scholarly arguments concerning whether this work in fact describes the metaphysics of Limbo.
