The Shape of Discovery is a short philosophical treatise, though it is unclear whether its argument is serious or parodic. It equates curiosity with greed: as greed supplies the motive force of games of chance, curiosity shapes possibility in the world. The work describes curiosity as irrational and unpredictable, capable of taking people over with a drive to explore, and as one of the few wholly unpredictable forces in the world.
